The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program allows participants to rent a unit from a private landlord who agrees to certain terms and conditions as set forth by the federal government.
- Residents pay approximately 30% of household income towards rent.
- Federal guidelines give priority to families whose income is less than 30% of the median. In Aurora, this is a $23,350 annual income for a family of four.
- Families cannot make more than 50% of the area median income (AMI) to be eligible for the HCV program at admission. In 2013, this amount is $38,900 for a family of four. (HUD income limits)
- Currently the waiting list is closed and no new applications are being accepted. The approximate waiting list time for this program is five years or longer.
