Please review our Program Status page for more details. Housing Choice Voucher Tenant-Based and Housing Choice Voucher Project-Based Waiting Lists are closed to new applicants. We do not have an anticipated opening date for these programs.
Tenant-Based Vouchers provide rental assistance for families in the private rental market. The voucher is provided to applicants and they can choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program. Applicants selected for the Tenant-Based Waiting List may only receive a Tenant-Based Voucher.
Project-Based Vouchers provide rental assistance that is tied to a specific unit in a property contracted with the Housing Authority. Applicants selected for the Project-Based Waiting List may only receive a Project-Based Voucher.
Applicants who were selected for both the Tenant-Based and Project-Based Waiting Lists will only be removed from a list for which they have been selected. Applicants cannot transfer to the Tenant-Based Waiting List from the Project-Based Waiting List or vice-versa (the other way around.)
Please review our Program Status page for more details.
There is an extremely high demand for affordable housing, and a very low supply. Some waiting lists are closed for several years. Help us advocate for affordable housing! Make sure your representatives know it is a priority!
Yes! You can apply to places all over the country, with no limit to how many programs or waiting lists you can apply to, as long as you do not submit duplicate applications for the same list. Do keep a record of where you’ve applied so that if you need to update your contact information or want to know where you are on the list you can!
No. If selected, you will be contacted by mail, phone, and/or e-mail for eligibility screening once your name gets to the top of the list. This screening process will determine if you meet the basic eligibility requirements of the program.
As units become available, AHA will contact you for an eligibility screening appointment. The screening process will determine if you meet the basic eligibility requirements to qualify for the program. When the unit is available and you have met the requirements, you may choose to decline the unit if circumstances do not allow you to move at that time, according to the Resident Selection Plan you received and made available to you at application.
Applicants who have been selected for a waiting list will be given contact information by the property that selected them. Please understand that there is a critical time element here and return the call, letter, or e-mail as soon as possible.
Income is an important qualifier for most programs, but more specifically it is that the programs are helping those who have a certain income limit or below. The “or below” is where having no income can qualify. Please note that your income is extremely important to report, including money you get from friends and family. Failure to report can be prosecuted as fraud.
